The Historical City of Malacca

(I still believe it should be written as Melaka and pronounced as Melaka)

The trip to Melaka was anticipated by me because I really wanted to see the A'Famosa Fort. Well, let the pictures speak for themselves. All I can say is I love Melaka, I love Melaka, I love Melaka. Nuff said!

Behind was the Taming Sari Tower ride.

Too many people and a very long queue. So, we just took pictures there.

Next to the square with the Taming Sari Tower was a shopping complex. Apa lagi!

Then we headed to the famous Jonker Street. And to our delight there was a street concert that night. The street was full of people.

Watching the concert.

The Hang Kasturi Mausoleum  was situated on Jonker Street. It was locked.

Alamak! Herot pulak. Anyway, this was a boutique hotel.

Tak tau nak pi mana. Hahaha...

Watching the street manga artist at work.

Promoting his kitchen wares to Papa.

The Lisbon Hotel was not used as a hotel due to some misunderstanding between certain quarters.  What a waste. I'm sure the inside must've been beautiful.

Behind us was the Lisbon Hotel.  It's situated in the Portuguese settlement.

The A'Famosa Fort.

Most parts of the original building/fort were underground

On what was supposed to be the inside of the fort.

An uphill and a daunting task towards St Paul's Hill.

The city of Melaka from the steps of St Paul's Hill.

Before we reached the hilltop, we passed the Dutch Graveyard first.

Once reaching the top, we arrived at the back of St Paul's Church.

The front of St Paul's Church.

Behind Papa was the statue of St Paul.

Then we moved inside. There were many tombstones on both sides of the walls.

More tombstones inside one of the rooms there.

A tombstone from 1659, I think belonged to Theodores Herrers.

Hendrick Van Eeckel, 1619

A modern day tombstone for Nicolaus Basly, 1678

An old tombstone for the same Nicolaus Basly, 1678

Then, after St Paul's Hill and Church, we went to visit this red building, the Dutch administration building, the Stadhuys.  It was converted into a museum.

Behind Nina was the main entrance of the museum which we didn't enter.

I think this hollowed section was used to place idols.

These were my idols.

The church was also painted red.

It was Sunday and the Sunday Mass was ongoing.

The square and fountain in front of the Stadhuys.

By this time we were already too tired to walk around. So we headed to this fruit seller.

We bought some fruits and just sat there.

After a while, they became agitated again.

Tak sabaq dah nak round balik.

Next was walking along the river towards a small pier for a river cruise treat.

The water was muddy.

Banyak cerita nak kena baca along the way.

Rasa cam jauh ja jeti tu. Sungguh tak larat jalan.

It was a long walk!

Midway, we found these ruins.

And anything can be an adventurous distraction to us.

Since any ruins must have a history behind, so, an exploration is underway.

The bricks were quite thick.

The climb was quite arduous but climbed they did!

Happy to have conquered the ruins.

On the other side of the river was a hotel (err... i think!)

Nina wasn't camera shy.  She couldn't be bothered who was looking her way or at her.

Here and there.

 Careful there!

Cruising!

The cruise was really fun!

We got to see many parts of Melaka effortlessly. Hahaha...

Fin!

Melaka is definitely a must return-to city.  So many nooks and crannies haven't been explored.  Wait for our return Melaka!
